We Can Be Zero
#ZeroCovid is the way we can live together again.
Crush.
Suppress Covid infections now to single digits or better. This means a short, effective lockdown of two incubation cycles - 6 to 10 weeks, if done well - with an initial aim of fewer than 10 new cases per day. Why this number? Fewer than 10 cases per day means that the contact tracing system can hunt those down and contain them, aiming to eliminating those as well.
Control.
Stop new cases coming to the Irish community with mandatory 14-day hotel quarantine for incoming international travelers. This will welcome returning citizens and visitors while stopping existing and new variants of the virus from coming into Ireland. This way, they, and we, can start to live again safely.
Chase.
We do this a few ways:
Citizen Power: We agree to reduce the spread by wearing our masks at all times when out, washing our hands and ensuring good ventilation when indoors. And we refuse to accept the blaming of individuals for clusters and instead welcome accountability for our list of contacts, which we share with the contact tracing teams so they can chase down any clusters that emerge and contain them.
Contact Track and Trace: Fewer than 10 cases per day means that the contact tracing system can hunt those down and contain them, aiming to eliminate those as well.
Public Health: Better resource public health physicians and enhance the co-ordination of the contact test and trace infrastructures.
Green Zones: Introduce regional “green zones” to protect Zero Covid areas.
Supported Isolation: Financially and socially support people affected by self-isolation and businesses interrupted by any temporary restrictions put in place to manage clusters of infection in Zero Covid Ireland.
Vaccinations: Continue the vaccine roll-out. We are not vaccinated against Covid-19 until we are all vaccinated and we also know how effective this plan is in communities. This will take many months and in the meantime, in Zero Covid Ireland we can start to live again.
Action Needed:
People across Ireland's shared islands are doing their part. We’ve shown once before that together we can bring the number of cases right down. This time, we need to keep the numbers down and keep Covid-19 out, and that’s something only the government can do.
